Helen grew up in the Midwest where she was involved in founding a free medical clinic and women’s health counseling beginning in high school. She worked her way through college doing research in diabetes and other endocrine disorders at Washington University School of Medicine. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Washington University with a degree in chemistry she spent some time in the Netherlands doing research. She attended University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and did her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital. After completing her training Helen has worked in the Portland area in primary care medicine and raised her son.
Since 2005, Helen has been a student of Tai Chi and Ba Gua at the US Wushu Center. Through this practice and the visceral experience of qi, Helen developed a strong interest in Chinese Medicine. She attended the 6 month training in Medical Acupuncture developed by Dr Joseph Helms and has since incorporated acupuncture in her practice. She is also pursuing training in Mind Body Medicine and Food as Medicine. Helen hopes to develop a program of skills, information and referrals that provide a truly comprehensive Wellness system tailored to the needs of individuals at various stages of life and with various health concerns. Working in an integrated health care setting is a critical part of this aspiration.
